1. Surrounding Clinics have closed their lists
If there is a sizeable amount of clinics that are NOT Accepting new patients in the area, you’ll face less competition for building your own roster. Even better, some of these clinics may refer their new patient enquiries to you! This creates an excellent opportunity for a new physician to establish a steady flow right from the start and significantly help the local patient population.
👉 A prime example of such a job (live and open to applications): GP / Family Physician – Southern Ontario – Extremely High Patient Demand. In this area, we could not find a single clinic accepting new patients!
2. Consider clinics based high foot-traffic locations
Clinics located in superstores, major pharmacies, or busy retail areas naturally attract more patients, giving you a steady flow even in more competitive markets. It gives the doctor the chance to start building their patient flow immediately with a mix of booked patients and walk-ins. The walk-ins coming from the superstore are especially handy for filling any gaps in the doctor’s schedule.
👉 A prime example of such a job (live and accepting applications): GP / Family Physician - Eastern Ontario - High Foot-Traffic location. The clinic is located inside a very busy superstore. On top of this the clinic is located in an area that has high patient demand. So this has a compounding effect.
3. Check if there are Walk-in Clinics in the area
The presence of walk-in-only clinics is a strong signal of unmet demand for a regular Family Physician, reflecting the need for more doctors providing continuity of care in the area. In areas with a significant presence of walk-in centres, many patients rely on them for all their primary care needs. Many of these patients have been unable to register with a regular Family Doctor, sometimes for years.
4. Inherit an existing roster of patients
Another option to ensure a good patient flow from day one is to take over the Patient Roster of a retiring physician. This approach eliminates the uncertainty of building a panel from scratch and provides immediate stability.
👉 A prime example of such a job: GP / Family Physician – Alberta – Inherit Existing Roster. This clinic offers an opportunity to inherit a retiring physician’s roster of about 2,000 patients, ready from day one.
