Project Overview
The Challenge
Manitoba, like many Canadian provinces, has faced persistent challenges in recruiting and retaining family physicians Multiple clinics across the province were operating with significant physician shortages, leading to reduced access to primary care, increased burden on emergency departments, and burnout among existing medical staff.
What CloserMed Did
Between July 2024 and August 2025, our Recruitment Agency successfully placed 16 highly qualified family physicians across 8 medical clinics in the Winnipeg area (Urban and Rural). This comprehensive recruitment initiative has the potential to provide primary care access to 32,000 patients in both urban and rural communities, bringing experienced practitioners to areas with critical physician shortages.

CloserMed’s Approach
Each clinic has its own specificities, so we carried out a detailed discovery with each of them, taking time to understand their culture and the needs of the local patient population. We sourced family physicians from other provinces in Canada as well as internationally.
For international recruitment, we targeted countries with recognised high-quality medical training, while also choosing countries with higher supply of family physicians so we do not create shortages elsewhere.
We qualified physicians based on both their soft skills and their clinical profile.

Dr Kemejika Weli

Dr Esther Amankwah
Board-certified family physician with 15 years of experience. Specializes in women’s health and palliative care, dedicated to building lasting patient relationships. Joined Easton Place Clinic in April 2025, contributing expertise in women’s health and palliative care to enhance comprehensive community care.
Dr Isaac Ajongba
Experienced Family Physician with a broad background spanning primary care, surgical support, and hospital medicine across the UK and Ghana. Dedicated to delivering safe, high-quality care while advancing his expertise in occupational and legal medicine. Joined Easton Place Clinic in January 2025, bringing broad primary care and surgical experience to support high-quality, patient-centered services for the community.
Dr Segun Bakare
Family Physician with extensive clinical experience spanning GP specialty training, urgent and out-of-hours care, and multidisciplinary hospital rotations across the UK and Nigeria. Brings a broad clinical skill set and a strong foundation in primary care delivery. Joined Easton Place Clinic in November 2024, contributing a proactive approach to patient management and a commitment to safe, responsive, and continuity-focused care for the community.
